Watergate Sonic joins Samsung SmartThings

Watergate Sonic Wi-Fi has officially been approved for Works with SmartThings certification, adding Samsung SmartThings to the growing list of platforms Watergate already works with, including Home Assistant, Control4, Crestron Home, Fibaro and Amazon Alexa.

The goal behind these integrations is simple: Watergate should work with the systems people already use to manage their homes and buildings.

SmartThings is an important addition, and one our engineering team has been working towards for some time.

This one took some work

Getting Sonic into SmartThings wasn’t a case of flipping a switch.

Our engineering team worked closely with the wider SmartThings team, and especially with Samsung’s SmartThings team in Poland, throughout the integration and certification process. Together, we tested, refined and worked through the details before Sonic Wi-Fi was officially approved for Works with SmartThings certification.

A big thank you to everyone involved, and especially to the team in Poland who helped us get this one across the line.

Why the certification matters

There’s a difference between making two systems connect and completing Samsung’s Works with SmartThings certification process.

Sonic has now been through that process and officially approved for the platform.

For us, that matters. Connected technology needs to do more than look good on an integrations page. It needs to work as part of the systems people already depend on.

Water is no exception.

What comes next

The collaboration also opens an interesting next chapter around SmartThings Pro, Samsung’s platform for connected commercial environments.

That’s particularly relevant for Watergate. Facilities teams already manage heating, cooling, lighting, access and energy across buildings and portfolios. Smart water management has a clear role to play alongside them.

It’s an opportunity the SmartThings team sees too. During our conversations, the team in Poland pointed to a gap that’s familiar to us: there still aren’t enough smart water technologies integrated into buildings.

We’d like to help change that.

For Watergate, this is where the integration gets particularly interesting. Bringing water into the wider building environment creates opportunities to make water monitoring and protection part of how properties are managed, rather than leaving them as separate systems.

There’s more work ahead, but becoming Works with SmartThings certified gives us a strong place to start.

Each connection brings us closer to the same goal: making smart water management easier to fit into the way people already run their homes and buildings.
