New Smart Home automation integrations for Sonic
We’re excited to announce the release of three new features for our flagship product, Watergate Sonic.
Homeowners can now effortlessly control their water system alongside other smart devices, creating a unified smart home experience. These innovations mark a significant step forward in making Sonic more versatile and accessible to millions of smart home enthusiasts.
Smart Homes are booming
With more than 5 million UK homes now equipped with connected smart devices – including lights, audio-visual systems, security setups, and smart plugs – the demand for a unified, local control system has never been higher.
We know many of you prefer managing your devices locally rather than relying on cloud solutions, valuing enhanced control, privacy, and security. This shift also reduces dependence on individual manufacturers.
Introducing the Watergate Local API
We’re excited to launch the free Watergate Local API, which allows direct control of Sonic using your preferred smart home or building management system. It enables users to create bespoke automations or routines and control Sonic locally. This integration provides access to Sonic’s raw telemetry data of water consumption, pressure and temperature readings as well as full control of Sonic’s built-in shut off valve. The API ensures seamless compatibility with a wide range of platforms, including Home Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, Crestron and Control4, among others.
Voice activation with new Alexa integration
We have also introduced a new Alexa Skill, allowing users to control their Sonic device with their voice – for example, shutting off your water. Once you have enabled the skill on your Alexa app, or directly on the Skill page, you can control Sonic by saying ‘Alexa, open Sonic’ to your Alexa smart device.
Seamless Home Assistant Integration
Watergate Sonic also now natively integrates with Home Assistant, an open-source local hub celebrated for its ever-growing community and continuous feature enhancements. This means users can use their water system effortlessly within the Home Assistant platform—from monitoring usage to automating leak prevention, Sonic is now an integral part of your smart home setup, making water management smarter and easier. Watergate has developed the integration and will support it so that everyone has access to the best-in-class integration.
“We’ve long believed that our products should integrate seamlessly into any home automation platform, and today, we’ve made that a reality. These new integrations empower users with greater control and a more unified smart home experience.”
